UPDATING VERMONT'S RESIDENTIAL ENERGY CODE
Requirements Governing Residential New Construction, Alteration, Renovation, & Repair
Updating what? It could be among the least known of Vermont's statutes but Vermont has a residential energy code called the Vermont Residential Building Energy Standards (VT-RBES). This state law requires builders (or the person acting as the general contractor) to certify to their buyer that the work they perform on Vermont homes complies with the minimum energy-efficiency standards in VT-RBES. Beginning early in 2011, all newly constructed homes, additions, alterations, renovations, and repairs are required to meet updated Vermont Residential Building Energy Standards, and certified as such by the builder/contractor performing the work.
